Gilgamesh

In Episode #32, Collision (a.k.a. Old Habits), Locke is working on a crossword puzzle. The answer he puts into 42 Down is Gilgamesh. The story of Gilgamesh was orignally written on 12 tablets. The translation of each of those tablets tells the story of Gilgamesh. While I have not yet finished reading all 12 tablets, there are many similarities between the story and Lost that I have come across in the tablets I have read so far. Full text of the tablets can be found and read on either of these websites:

The word fate is used quite a bit in throughout the story. The town is Uruk is in Iraq and may even be where the name Iraq originated from. Sayid was an Iraqi soldier. The Euprhates River plays a significant part in the story and in last weeks episode Sayid was given busfare to Ramadi, which is a town in Iraq located right on the banks of the Euphrates river. The story even mentions about keeping boys from their fathers, much like Walt and Michael.
